Student hostels have a free shuttle service every morning from the student’s dormitories to their respective schools. The dormitories are divided into sections that can fit 2, 4, 6 students respectively in an apartment style concept. A 24-hour security system and CCTV in the dormitory to ensure the safety and privacy of the students. The management and maintenance of the dormitories are carried out by trained professionals to ensure a high level of hygiene and sanitary conditions, creating a comfortable and secure living environment for students. Students in younger grades can also, upon request, be provided with meals and supervision services.
Suitable for students between the ages of 13 and 19; parents may not be comfortable with international students of this age renting an apartment independently. These students are no longer young and the likelihood of parents accompanying them is low. Homestay families are generally safe and welcoming, where international students can feel at home and receive care and emotional support from their temporary guardians. In addition, some host families can also provide academic course guidance. With this comprehensive range of services, parents no longer have to worry about their children living away from home, and students are taken care of while in Singapore. However, homestays generally impose restrictions on students’ freedom and require international students to adapt to the pace of life in the host family.
Most Universities will try and house their first year students in their own accommodation. The quality and quantity varies but you will usually be allocated a room in a shared flat with other students. You may not have en-suite bathroom facilities and whether you choose catered or non-catered will impact the level of kitchen facilities you have.
It is a good idea to take up an offer of university accommodation in your first year so you would not have to deal with the hassle of having to find somewhere to live by yourself. In addition, you can join the social events held by the University.
Some Universities will offer limited places beyond your first year so if it is an experience you have enjoyed, it may be worth looking into. Do consider though that you may end up sharing with first years.
Apartment rentals are suitable for students over the age of 18 that has enrolled in a college. Parental consent is compulsory in order to receive this service. Private apartments are usually equipped with facilities such as swimming pools and gyms which are free of charge, backed up by a 24-hour security, so the quality of life of students can be guaranteed. Rooms are divided into regular rooms and master rooms, or studio apartments. However, in addition to the cost of the room, students may have to pay for their own utilities.

Generally, the accommodation will need to be approved as suitable for Under-18 students. Be sure to discuss with your education counsellors if you will be under 18 when arriving overseas.
